Ask someone to name the most classic retro game of all time, and there's a good chance they'll say Space Invaders. With the Taito Milestones 5 collection, you'll get this legendary title along with no fewer than nine other Taito gems. There's something here for every taste: action games, platformers, sports games, shoot 'em ups, and block-and-ball classics. Five times the charm... Enjoy!
SPACE INVADERS
Released: 1978
The super-classic Space Invaders marked the beginning of many things, not least memorable game characters. The phenomenon of having distinct, recognizable characters then exploded during the 1980s, a decade defined by both shapes and colors.
MARINE DATE
Released: 1981
Marine Date is a quirky single-screen game in which you help an octopus reach its date. Easier said than done, though! Corals and devious fish stand in your way. Make use of the mermaid whenever you get the chance!
LAND SEA AIR SQUAD
(Known as Storming Party in Europe)
Released: 1986
This intense run-and-gun game lets you navigate chaotic battlefields and defeat enemies using a machine gun and grenades. It also features tanks, helicopters, speedboats, and a train. Land, sea, and air, right?
ARKANOID: REVENGE OF DOH
Released: 1987
Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh was released one year after the original Arkanoid from 1986. The mysterious enemy known as DOH has returned, and it is once again up to you to destroy blocks and bounce balls using the Vaus II space vessel!
PLUMP POP
Released: 1987
In Plump Pop, you play as a family of dogs, cats, or pigs bouncing their children on a giant trampoline. While airborne, the children defeat enemies. They can even land on the clouds and walk across.
EXTERMINATION
Released: 1987
In Extermination, you'll wipe out waves of attacking aliens using your gun and defeat a boss at the end of each stage. The action unfolds on a vertically scrolling screen.
FINAL BLOW
Released: 1988
Unlike many other boxing games, Final Blow is viewed from the side rather than from behind. It features five fictional boxers: Dynamite Joe, Fernando Gomez, Kim Nang, King Jason, and Detroit Kid.
SAGAIA (3-screen version)
(Known as Darius II in Japan)
Released: 1989
Most people associate side-scrolling shoot-'em-ups with spaceships. In Sagaia, however, you'll battle enormous mechanical fish instead! The game also features a branching level structure, and the original arcade version uses multiple screens to create an extremely wide-screen experience.
CRIME CITY
Released: 1989
This hard-boiled, side-scrolling action game from the late 1980s has you tracking down gang members and taking them out with a variety of weapons, including pistols, rifles, and shotguns. Or simply your fists!
FOOTBALL CHAMP
(Known as Hat Trick Hero in Japan)
Released: 1990
In Football Champ, you select one of eight teams and attempt to reach the top. It features surprisingly rough play for a soccer game and introduces the Super Shot, which can send the goalkeeper flying into the stands!
